Stainless steel herons, hummingbirds and salmon are typical fare one expects to find Sequim’s Metal & Mud owner, Dana Hyde, creating on any given day. In November 2008, however, a whole new facet of the artist was revealed at Studio Bob in Port Angeles, Washington. As an added twist, her dogs can claim responsibility for this show coming to fruition. |

“I wish I had more time to paint,” was the endless litany going through her head as summer waned and the show date approached. On August 5th, in a fluke accident at the Sequim Dog Park, her wish came true. |

With some welding assistance from her father, Dana completed an impressive collection of metal paintings. Described as “contemporary and bold steel cut images,” these striking metal pieces are a blend of Hyde’s dexterity with the plasma cutter, movement of the human form, and her love of vibrant color. “There is nothing pale or muted about my work,” Hyde explains. “I want the impact of the paintings to be striking, bright, and happy.” |
